Tasks are not like bets. Bets fail. Tasks get done.
But bets are exciting, sexy, cool. We feel glamorous placing bets.
We don't feel glamorous doing tasks. Tasks are work. A trudge.
That said, when a bet pays off it's a hollow sort of euphoria; ecstacy undermined by the knowledge that we got lucky and that can only last so long.
When a task gets done there's real pride and something to build on.
Is improvement about tasks or bets?
